The Upsidedown head out on a full-on
West Coast tour in June in support of their debut album Trust Electricity.
They start out at The Make Out Room in San Francisco on June 26th
and then on to LA's Spaceland on June 27. Stay tuned for more
dates.
A very cool underground pirate radio station out of LA have put The Upsidedown
into pretty heavy rotation. Check it out. The overall programming
on the station is some of the best: www.littleradio.com
Both the local and national press seem to be big fans of The Upsidedown. Among
other cool reviews, former 'Jackie' band-member Kip Berman, who now slaves for
the Portland Mercury, just gave the band an amazing review and the band were
recently named "Band to Watch" in Magnet Magazine. |

The band hail from Portland, Oregon and
feature an eclectic and an extremely amazing group of individuals.
They are: Jsun Atoms voice/guitar, Tristan Evans bass/voice, Matt
Moore guitar/voice/ harmonica, Rob Scrivner lead guitar, Brett Kron
keyboards/sounds and B. Mild on drums. They spent most of the beginning
of 2003 forming the band and finding their beautiful, but dark soul.
Then they spent the second half writing and putting down tracks for
their debut. The band recorded their debut "TRUST ELECTRICITY" almost
entirely themselves, with Upsidedown keyboard and sound magician
Brett Kron at the mixing desk. The band also had some last minute
help from Tony Lash, who's previous work includes Heatmiser, Elliott
Smith, Tahiti 80 and The Dandy Warhols among many others.
THE UPSIDEDOWN have been touring up and down the West coast over the past few
months. They were also recently invited by their mates The Dandy Warhols to perform
at their Tsunami Benefit for Mercy Corps at The Roseland in Portland. Keep your
eyes on the band's website for news of upcoming shows. You should also drop on
to their site to see a live video clip of their CD release party; the band invited
David J, he of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets fame, on stage to play a rendition
of the great Bauhaus song "Who Killed Mr. Moonlight." You can download
the clip from their site. |

THE WILLAMETTE WEEK
"The Upsidedown plays dirty, glammed-up, drugged-down guitar rock with a
dark heart. Their brand of ambient rock carries forth in a grand tradition: carefully
constructed Dandies drone, pop hooks and devil-may-care-decadence."
MAGNET MAGAZINE
BAND TO WATCH "There's a whole lotta tambourine shakin' going
on, but the real mover on this debut is the shoegazing vortex that
sucks you in and never lets go. Woozy male/female vocals creep through
a silver haze of whirring feedback, toxic-sludge guitars and tap-happy
cymbals. The acid smeared daydream lasts only 56 minutes, but the
hangover rings in your head for days."
THE BOSTON GLOBE
"There's a pop (and sometimes Punk) sensibility that runs through'em all...
We really like what we hear on "Trust Electricity," the Upsidedown's
debut CD, which is dreamy and decadent in all the right places."
THE PORTLAND MERCURY
"A diligent band that's been around the Portland block, The Upsidedown paid
their dues, and are now finally getting pay back: they've been reviewed in Magnet
as a "Band to watch," and have been receiving considerable acclaim
for their debut, Trust Electricity. They play out often and it shows, their
well-crafted and undeniably catchy psychedelic rock is powerfully perfected. Let's
relish the last moments of this band's locality before they are stolen from us."
TUCSON WEEKLY
"After listening to their latest album, Trust Electricity (2004 Reverb),
I've decided it's pretty darn good stuff. It reminds me of Echo and the Bunnymen
and Love and rockets' heyday, but adds the drone of The Dandy Warhols and BRMC,
and it's about as good as any of this type of thing being released these days."
THE OREGONIAN
"The Upsidedown create neo-psychedelic rock with all the hazy swirl and
tambourines one would expect... Trust Electricity carries layers of sonic fog
and grit, cut by the vocals of Jsun Atoms, Tristan Evans and Matt Moore. The
sound is textured, the performances polished." |
